Optical/Optometric Assistant

Optical/Optometric Assistants are specially trained medical assistants responsible for supporting the Optometrist (Eye Doctor) and assisting the patients themselves directly. Optical/Optometric Assistants have both technical duties, including administering eye exams, preparing exam rooms, and fitting patients with the appropriate eyewear; and administrative duties, including answering phones, greeting patients, and scheduling exams.

At NCE you can train to be an Optical/Optometric Assistant in as few as 9 months! NCE’s program provides hands-on training from experienced, professional faculty. Students learn how to test patients for visual acuity, depth perception, and color blindness. Graduates are trained to competently use precision optical instruments and lens-edging machines. NCE’s accredited program also includes an externship in a medical or retail facility. Upon completion of the program, NCE graduates are prepared to obtain certification from the ABO (American Board of Opticianry).

Lab Assistant, EKG Technician/ Phlebotomist

Medical Laboratory Assistants are responsible for duties including performing routine and specialized tests, recording testing information, and preparing specimens. Lab assistants may also be responsible for cleaning and restocking the lab facility, keeping inventory, and ordering lab supplies. EKG technicians specialize in electrocardiogram (EKG) testing for patients. EKG machines are complex devices that monitor the heart’s performance through wires and electrodes attached to a patient’s chest, arms and legs. Phlebotomists are the health care professionals who draw blood, ensuring that the proper amount is taken and that all blood is properly labeled. Their main responsibility is drawing and preparing blood for lab testing, but Phlebotomists are also responsible for collecting specimens of other bodily fluids for testing as well.

At NCE, you can train to be a Lab Assistant, EKG Technician, or Phlebotomist in as few as 9 months! NCE’s program provides hands-on training from experienced, professional faculty. NCE students learn to perform many important procedures, including laboratory procedures for hematology, bacteriology, urinalysis, electrocardiography, and phlebotomy. Students also develop communication and interpersonal skills. Upon completion of the program, students are CPR certified and are prepared to obtain the California Phlebotomy Technician (CPT1)License from the State of California.
