Medical Assistants work in physicians’ offices, clinics, hospitals, private labs, and other healthcare facilities in every town, every city, and every part of the country. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, employment for medical assistants is projected to grow 23 percent nationwide from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. This strong growth will add about 155,000 new jobs in the coming decade. All in all, it is a great time to consider beginning a career as a Medical Assistant!
Medical Assistants work directly with both patients and doctors to deliver high quality medical care. Medical Assistants perform an assortment of both administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, measuring patients' vital signs, administering medications and injections, and recording information in medical recordkeeping systems. Administrative duties include greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records, and scheduling appointments. Medical Assistants also act as a patient coordinator by providing a means of communication between patients, doctors and other health care providers.
The Medical Assistant program at NCE trains students in the skills they need to enter into an entry-level position in this rewarding healthcare field. Like all of NCE’s programs, the Medical Assistant program provides hands-on, practical learning in a real-world setting. NCE students learn to perform basic laboratory procedures, as well as how to assist physicians in medical office examinations. NCE graduates are also prepared to work in the front office of a medical office, performing administrative duties such as bookkeeping, record management, appointment scheduling, insurance, and medical practice management. Graduates will be qualified to test for the National Healthcareer Association Certification from the NHA.
